Have you ever been told you’re not good enough? Has anyone ever made you feel like you are nothing, that you’re abilities and skills are worthless? Maybe it’s not even what anyone says, but how they treat you. You are made to feel unwanted and a failure just by their attitude. People who have their self-worth kicked around long enough become easy prey for abusers and users. Life can become difficult very quickly when you feel you don’t matter and there is someone there to reinforce these hurt feelings.

Have you wondered what you are really worth? I’m not asking what you think you’re worth or what your partner thinks. What do you think you mean to God? Let me give you a hint. If you took all the money and gold that ever existed and placed it on a scale and then placed your heart on the opposite side of the scale, which do you think God would love most? It’s you. Now you might be thinking that’s probably true for good people or Christians, but I’m too messed up for that to be my reality. Paul writes, “For there is no distinction; since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3: 22c, 23

Christian or non-Christian, God loves us all. In fact He loved us enough that He came to earth, died on Calvary’s cross so that our sins would be forgiven and our past forgotten. The God of the Universe died for you and me; that’s special and that makes us special. Remember the most famous verse in the Bible, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 All that Christians have going for themselves is that they accept these words of Jesus and trust that He means what He says. We are, “justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus.” Romans 3: 24

See why we are valuable? We have been set free from the curse of sin and death by the grace, the love and the sacrifice of God. If He believes we are worth the cruel death by torture on the cross, who dares challenge our worth?

I knew a lady years ago that lived in a terribly abusive relationship. She was so beat up emotionally and physically that she was a completely broken woman. One day in desperation, while visiting her mother-in-law she picked up a Bible and read, “If God is for us, who is against us?” Romans 8: 31 She looked at the verse for a long time trying to let the meaning sink in. When she got up out of the chair, she had hope for the first time in years. She later told me, “I realized that if God was for me, I had to be worth something. It wasn’t much to go on, but it gave me the first courage I had in years. It took me four months to build the courage and strength to walk out the door and into a new life. But, I have never looked back because God is my future.”

God loves you with all His heart and He wants to bring you joy, happiness and peace. When you open your heart up to Him you won’t be hurt. You’re sins and your past are forgiven and forgotten. You are sons and daughters of the Kingdom set free from sin by the ultimate sacrifice. Oh yes, you ARE special.
